| History | Intralesional Treatments Intralesional administration of drugs is used for verruca, inflammatory lesions, to prevent or reduce scar formation and to treat certain neoplasms. The intralesionally administered drug has direct contact with the underlying pathology. A depot injection may be made for long term localized therapy. Since the drug is injected directly into the patient's lesion, there is no dilution of the drug caused by oral or systemic administration which is metabolized prior to reaching the lesion. Care must be taken to estimate and understand what effects, if any, systemic absorption of intralesional treatments has on patients. |
